RTMonitor program scans the most current common log file of Novell BorderManager (NBM) and creates the following statistics in real time:

- User IP addresses.

- NDS user name (if Proxy Authentication using).

- Last web site visited by the user (will see IP address if Transparent Proxy is used instead of HTTP Proxy).

- Last time the site was accessed in the Main window and the last twenty URL's visited in History window for each user.

- Common user's loading from the start of program's work.

- Current user's loading for the current time cycle of the program.

- HTTP status code of the last HTTP pack.

- Start time of the program.

- Number of users accessing the Internet through NBM HTTP or Transparent Proxy (3 - for the demo version).

- Waiting time.

- Average HTTP loading of the server for 5 min.

You also can:

- Get information for desirable host from the Internet Whois databases by Whois command

- Sort collected information

- Connect to selected web sites to see where have been your users

- Look through out the history (a cache) of these web sites for some cycles of the program

- Create reports for all websites, which your users are visiting at this moment The program forms two kinds of reports - the websites report and the sites visitors report

- Define the names of your users if NBM could not make it (in this case you see the "-"symbols in "Users" column)

- Save up to ten common log paths in Recent NBM server menu if you have more than
one NBM server in the network

- Save URL of websites in the text file (LinkWall list) for the further analysis

- See entries of users, who tried to get access to forbidden websites (403 HTTP code). In this case
RTMonitor shows these entries by yellow backgrounded color in the main window and gives the signal to PC speaker

- Create HTML reports for the Main and History modes

- Change the font and background color for active users for forbidden entries in the Main window

- Establish max number of users accessing the Internet through NBM HTTP or Transparent Proxy
for showing in the Main window, from 1 to 32767 (3 - for the demo version)

- Get traffic diagrams for HTTP proxy for the current hour or day

- Get personal NDS information for user

- Send a message to user by Message services of NetWare

- Remote management of workstations via Novell ZENworks Remote Management Agent

- Create reports and get information about any website using plain text blacklists

- Change width and order (drag) of eight columns. The program automatically saves these changes for next starts of the program

Requirements:

- RTMonitor runs on Windows 2000/XP/2003 platforms. For using the program in Windows Vista environment see the item of our FAQ

- Novell BorderManager 2.1, 3.0, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, 3.8 and 3.9

- Novell Client for Windows 4.91 (and later) for Windows 2000/XP/2003.

- Access to Internet by TCP port 43 for the Whois command

- Current connection into NDS tree of NBM server

- Your workstation must be in the same network of your NBM server

- NBM Proxy with common logging enabled

- Common log files available to analyze

- For management of LinkWall blocking you must have operator rights on NBM server

- Log Rollover. Do not make the size of the common log file too big. Configure the common log file to
Rollover by Size, with a 10MB limit or less for the best performance. In such case the program works quickly, smaller
log files are better than large ones. The size of the file also influences on RAM of your workstation

- 200 MB of RAM for creating a blaklist database in the *New blacklist * command.

- Do not keep too many old log files in the common log directory

- The common log directory should not include any files with a .log extension except for common log files

- Network card. For normal work you can use any network card, including wireless connections, but there
will be better performance in a case of the faster connection

- NDS common user names must not keep the following sequence of symbols: " [" (space, left square bracket).
You can use these symbols in user names, but you cannot use them in this sequence. RTMonitor will ignore
log strings with this sequence of symbols

- SPECIAL PURPOSE for RTMonitor v6.0.X owners: Upgrade your RTMonitor copy to RTMNSM by the price $43.45:

Install / Upgrade / Uninstall:

To install the program, double-click SetupRTM.exe and follow the installer program instructions.

If you already have the installed 3.9.6 or early version of the program, then you must first uninstall the old version before installing of the new copy. For it use the Add/Remove Programs folder in Control Panel of your workstation. This operation cleans all settings of MS Installer in the Registry.

If you already have installed demo copy of 4.0.3 version and want to use its settings, then install the new copy into the same directory

Uninstalling of the program. For this use Add/Remove Programs folder in Control Panel of your workstation or run uninst.exe file from RTMonitor directory. If you use LinkWall on the server, then delete in SYS:ETCLINKWALL directory of this server the following things:

- RTMON.LST

- "$INCLUDE SYS:ETCLINKWALLRTMON.LST" command in the LINKWALL.LST file

Press "Refresh NLM" (the LinkWall feature) button in NWAdmin.

Usage:

Run RTMonitor from the Desktop of your computer. For RTMonitor's work, you must point it firstly to the common log directory of NBM server. Select Open command from File menu. Then enter NBM common log directory in the dialog window. The program will take care of the rest. Once you have pointed the program to the common log files, RTMonitor is ready. Use Help at any time.

Note: Before the first start of Open command you must check the Max size of common log file parameter in Options . Default max size is determining up to 10Mb. If you have configured your log files to roll over (in NWADMN32) to the value larger, than the size configured in RTMonitor, you will have problems as RTMonitor needs to cache the log file to RAM on your workstation using this value.
